The Hon. Gary V. Scales will be retiring from the position of Judge Pro Tempore with the Superior Court on June 30, 2020. Judge Scales began his career as an attorney in 1974. In addition to his stint in private practice, Judge Scales served as a Federal prosecutor in Arizona, Puerto Rico, and Washington D.C., and as a public defender in Gila County. For the past 10 years, Judge Scales served the citizens of Gila County as a Superior Court Judge handling all types of matters ranging from child support enforcement to murder cases.
His demeanor on the bench, his respect for those before him, his charisma, and his technical expertise will be sorely missed.
The Court is fortunate to have Judge Scales continuing with Gila County in a part-time capacity. The Court wishes him the best on his well-deserved retirement after a career of public service.
