Gila County participates in NACo’s Infrastructure Week

Washington, D.C. — Gila County District 2 Supervisor, Tim Humphrey, recently joined more than 30 county leaders from across the country in Washington last week to outline how the federal government can help support local infrastructure goals.

As with past Infrastructure Week activities, NACo hosted events on and off Capitol Hill for county leaders to carry the message for increased and reliable local infrastructure investment to the doorstep of key policymakers.

Supervisor Humphrey says, “It’s important for us to learn from others who are facing similar infrastructure challenges affecting our counties every day. By attending this event, I was a strong voice for Gila County while taking part in discussions about federal-state-local partnership strategies and how they have helped counties contribute positive economic development through infrastructure.” “

With the Trump administration and Congress promising a new infrastructure package, it’s crucial that the county voice be heard on this fundamental issue,” said NACo Executive Director Matthew Chase.

In meetings with lawmakers and administration officials, county leaders advocated for:

• Preserving the tax-free status of municipal bonds

• Promoting dedicated funding for local infrastructure projects

• Promoted project and regulatory streamlining • Encouraged continued investment in water and wastewater infrastructure

• Expanding broadband development Supervisor Humphrey also attended a Capitol Hill briefing on the role of federal funding on infrastructure projects, a “Red Tape Roundtable” on streamlining and reducing regulation and panel discussions on broadband in economic development and best practices for local infrastructure development.
