Gila County — The 61st Annual Gila County Gem and Mineral Show will be held Friday, Jan. 12 through Sunday, Jan. 14 at the Gila County Fairgrounds on Highway 60.
Times are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the 12th and 13th and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on the 14th.
This is a perfect opportunity for local kids to come have fun, learn something new, get a new book and a map about our mineral-rich area, as well get something good to eat and go home with a treasure or two.
In addition to the shows main room, which will feature nearly 50 display cases, there will also be door prizes, vendors, a snack bar, silent auctions, a 5,000-square foot room with games, fossil and mineral pits, geode cutting, wire gem trees to make and hands-on learning for kids, as well as presentations and demonstrations of things like jewelry making, twist wire craft, and bead making.
Some of these events require a very small donation and kids will keep what they make, find or win. The ever-popular Wheel of Fortune game and the Grab Bags will keep you guessing and bring you wonderful prizes from the mineral world.
The cost for adults is $3 each or $5 per couple. For more information, call Jodi Brewster at 623-810-9780 or visit www.gilagem.com.
