During the weekend of Feb. 13, around 2,000 Covid-19 vaccines were provided to the residents of Gila County. In the days prior to the event, Mariano Gonzalez, logistics chief for the Gila County team, put out a call for help and Globe High School students responded.

The National Guard medics needed paperweights for the handouts they were providing. Gonzalez said, "We expect up to 20 mile per hour winds... the team thinks I am simply gathering rocks for their use. I know they will keep them as a memento of their work here in Globe.”

GHS Digital Communications students gathered and painted more than 40 rocks for the events, and had fun doing it. Gonzalez said, "(It gave) such a personal touch. They go all over Arizona giving vaccinations, but I don't think anyone has ever done this for them."
