Robert Burries, also known as BJ, was recently offered a full-ride sports scholarship to Graceland University, in Iowa. Burries is a senior basketball player at Globe High School. He also is currently playing on the school football team.
Burries said he is keeping an open mind about the scholarship and is not sure if he will accept the offer. Several universities throughout the country have been scouting Burries since his freshman year.
BJ says he first started playing basketball when he was two to three years old. His motivation to keep playing the sport was the fact that both sides of his family have ties to the sport, and it runs in the family. Both of his parents played in college and his grandma was a state champion.
For Burries, his greatest accomplishment so far is when he won the national free throw competition in Boston in 2013. Last basketball season, he surpassed 2,000 overall points, and his freshman year he set a 3A state record for points in a game, scoring 68 points in a 105-103 double-overtime win against Florence.
In 10 years, he sees himself playing professional basketball and giving back to the community. Burries is the son of Kelly Reede and stepson of James Reede of San Carlos.
