The Miami Vandals girls’ varsity team played hard but came up short against the Coolidge Bears. The varsity girls were playing tough defense and had the Bears, and their coach, frustrated and on edge.

As the game wore on the Coolidge Bears gained more and more of a lead but the Miami Vandals did not give up. The grit and determination of the girls led to intense play through the fourth quarter.

Girls basketball in Miami is building. For the last three years they have struggled with a losing record and therefore less interest in players showing up to make the team. This year is the first for Head Coach Freddy Rios and the team is looking to turn things around. Just like the boy’s team, they are yet to play a section game. As of now they sit at record of 1-4. Vandals basketball host their next home games against Superior Dec. 12 and Cibeque Dec. 13. The girls’ varsity games start at 5:30 p.m.
