Evelyn Jean Kuykendall, 88, of Tucson, passed away on Oct. 26, 2018.

Evelyn was born in Phoenix to Evart and Essie Bunger on Nov. 30, 1929. She married Stephen Kuykendall on March 31, 1947 in Globe. They lived in Young, Globe, Kearny, Sells and Vernon, Ariz. She worked as a teacher for the Head Start program, eventually moving into administration for 18 years. While with Head Start, she obtained her Child Development Associate Degree. As part of the original committee for the Head Start programs in eastern Arizona her work was often recognized in the local papers. Evelyn was active in community and church events, both in Globe and Show Low, Arizona.

Evelyn was preceded in death by the love of her life, Steve Kuykendall, her parents, and her nine siblings. Also, her grandsons, Rod and Ricky, and daughter-in-law, Shauna.

She is survived by her children, Steve, Danny (Laurie), Janet (Randy), Ellen and Evart (Paige), and a legacy of 19 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.

Sons, grandsons, and great-grandsons were pallbearers.

Memorials may be given to your local Head Start program.

The family of Evelyn wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Casa de la Luz hospice house, where she passed, surrounded by its kind and caring staff.

Visitation was on Thursday, Nov. 1, 2018 at Adair Funeral Home, Oro Valley, Ariz.

Funeral services were on Saturday, Nov. 3, 2018 at the Young Baptist Church in Young, Ariz. Officiating, Pastor Bob McSpadden of Sandario Baptist Church, and her son Danny Kuykendall. Her life history was presented by her son Steve Kuykendall. Burial followed at Young Pioneer Cemetery. Arrangements are by Adair Funeral Home (Tucson). Music was performed by her grand- and greatgrandchildren.
