Christie Cothrun is new Globe-Miami Chamber Board President

Posted

As Christie begins this journey, the Chamber would like to express their excitement and gratitude for all the hard work she has already put into the Chamber. Christie is bold, motivated and committed to bettering her community.

Here is a short Q&A with her so the Chamber members and the community as a whole to get to know who Christie is and why you should be excited that she is the new Board President. What is your proudest accomplishment?

My family has always been involved in the communities each member lived in so I think I am most proud of that legacy and I was lucky enough to earn a national award from the Society of American Florists for  giving to the community I lived in and the floral community. Probably number one was raising two amazing sons who are also making a difference in their communities. I am really blessed.

What drew you to Globe-Miami?

Both my parents graduated from Miami High School and their parents lived here, so I have been connected to this area my whole life. When I was thinking about opening a flower shop, I compiled the demographics of the greater Globe-Miami area and it was a great fit. I moved here four years ago.

What is your go to karaoke song?

Fever by Peggy Lee.

What initially urged you to join the Chamber board?

I joined the Chamber when I first got into town as a business member. I have always been a chamber member with other businesses and I know what a great organizations it is. Pretty shortly after that, a Board Member approached me about becoming a board member and I was all in.

You are the owner of Bouquets on Broad St. – tell us the most rewarding part about your career.

The most rewarding part is all the wonderful people I get to meet that perhaps I wouldn’t in a regular job. I get the honor of helping people at their most joyous moments in life and also their hardest moments in life. It is very humbling and rewarding.

What are the top 3 things you’d like to accomplish during your times a Board President?

Top 3 things- #1 Set a viable 5 year plan for the Chamber so everything we do represents the mission of the Chamber. #2 we just sent our surveys asking for feedback from members and non-members. I can’t wait to see all the suggestions people have and work with the Board of Directors on strategic planning to ensure we are meeting the needs of the business community. #3 we are in new territory with social distancing and businesses not being able to open. We have to be ready to move quickly once restrictions are lifted to plan great events for our community and to attract visitors to our communities to boost our economy. So much to do in a short period of time. It is all very exciting.

What is your favorite quote?

Strive not to be a success but to be of value- I think if you focus on bringing value to your job, your family and community, you will be a success.

What is your favorite way to spend free time in Globe-Miami?

Owning a business does not leave you with a lot of free time, but I love to spend time with friends and hopefully I will be able to carve our sometime soon to camp and fish- I love to go fishing.

What motivates you? How do you stay motivated?

I am a very goal oriented person, so seeing what needs to be done, setting goals and searching for ways to make things easier to use or more effective is very motivating to me.
