Inspired by a recent visit to the Czech Republic, director Nolan Frost chose Bedrich Smetana’s “Moldau,” a symphonic poem from Ma’ Vlast, meaning “My Homeland.” The Moldau is an exquisite tone painting of the travels of the Vlatava River through Bohemia.
Other selections also reflect an international flavor, “Suite Francaise,” by Darius Milhaud; “Paso Doble Passion,” a Latin dance; “Adagio of Spartacus” and “Phrygia” for a classical Greek sound; and “The Blue Ridge,” traditional American folk tunes.
The Jazz Band will present selections that fall within the genre of “cool.” Vocalists Cruz Mendoza, Marsha Cowen and Nolan Frost will entertain with a variety of Jazz songs including “Frim Fram Sauce,” a Nat Cole classic.
Globe Miami Centennial Band is a local, all-volunteer group of about 30 musicians. In their eighth season, the group includes professional and amateur musicians from age 13 to 84 and rehearses every Thursday at Miami High School. The Fall Concert is free, although donations are always welcome.
