Carmen Ortiz Gonzalez, 92

Posted

Carmen Ortiz Gonzalez was 92. She was born in Safford, Ariz. to Benedito and Fabiana Ortiz. She was the second oldest of 11 children.

Carmen was married to Juan A. Gonzalez for 62 years. She was a homemaker and raised five children. She was an excellent cook and delighted her family with amazing dishes. She wasn't just cooking a meal for her family; she was creating memories that have lasted a lifetime.

In earlier times, she was a member of the Latino club, was always active with the church and sang in the church choir. She also attended Pima Community College for several years, taking art classes. Mom's favorite pastime was sitting out on the porch with dad at sunset and listening to the turtle doves and pigeons. Our parents led a simple and peaceful life up on the hill.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Juan; her daughter, Mercy; her son, Johnny Boy; her parents, Benedito and Fabiana Ortiz; brothers, Alfred, Ben, Ramon and Manuel; and sisters, Emilia, Nellie and Marylou.

Carmen leaves behind daughters, Mary (husband Jim), Sally (husband Randy) and Carmen; granddaughters, Sonja (husband Jared) and Diana (husband Michael); grandsons, Adam (fiancé Ashley) and Everett; great-granddaughters, Josephine and Michaela; and great-grandsons, Cooper and Colton. She also leaves her sister, Libby (husband Albert); and brothers, Simon (wife Frances) and David (wife Velia).

You leave a void in our hearts, mom, but you are at home with the Lord.
