Can’t adopt a new dog? Donate Dog Food!

Posted

Gila County Animal Care and Control has nearly a dozen dogs available for adoption -- from cute pups to loving and loyal adults -- but if you can’t make a Christmas wish come true by adding one of these adorable canines to your home, you can still help today, by donating bags of dry dog food.

“As a Christmas special from now through Dec. 25 we are accepting two 50-pound bags of dog food in place of our standard adoption fee, as a way to help boost adoptions during the giving season,” wrote Gila County Animal Care and Control staff in a facebook post this week. “One bag of dog food will be donated to our local shelter here in Globe and the other bag will be used for animals at our facility waiting to be adopted and returned to their owners. We’re also thankful for donations of dog beds and blankets; December and January bring such cold weather, we always need blankets for animals in our care to snuggle-up with. Donation of dry dog food, dog treats -- and cat food, too -- are always appreciated. Animals in our care are fed twice a day, dry dog food goes fast -- and we always appreciate the extra donations.”

One person asked: “is there a specific dog food we should donate?”

Gila County Animal Care and Control replied: “we prefer Pedigree brand dry food for dogs, so the dogs don’t have to adjust to different foods, which can upset their digestive systems.  Pedigree is also a nationwide pet food brand well-known for donating a percentage of their profit to shelters -- and helping sponsor dog adoption across the United States. So yes, we prefer Pedigree. But we are thankful for all donations, any brand will do.”
