The eighth grade girls’ basketball team hosted Pima in non-section pay last Tuesday, Dec. 3. The young Miami Vandals basketball team was not able to claim a win but, like their high school counterparts, they showed grit and determination through all four quarters of play.
In the first quarter the defense was playing so tough that they frustrated the coach of the Pima girls’ team. At that point the score was within 4 points. Head Coach Jamie Hook, in her first year, had her team playing with intensity. In the end, their inexperience would get the best of them and they would come up short with an 18 to 33 loss.
With this type of loss, we can see the beginnings of program growth. It is not easy to motivate a team to play hard when the score gets out of hand. That is exactly what Head Coach Jamie Swift was able to do with her players.
