We made it through 2020 but not without a whole lot of help from our friends. The year was hard on everyone, but it did not stop our community from stepping up and lending a helping hand where needed. You supported our Dog and Cat Rescues with donations and you supported our Thrift Store and Furniture Store with donations. Then you supported us by shopping at our retail stores and we appreciate all of this so much.
We also owe big hugs and thank yous to our exceptional volunteers. Without our volunteers at both animal rescues, the Thrift Store, Furniture Store, Donation Center and Warehouse we could not survive. So thanks to all of you. We also thank Southwest Gas for the wonderful truck and Peter Beasley for air conditioning the back and putting the signage on it. This truck has made our lives so much easier and safer. We also thank Peter for sponsoring our low-cost spay/neuter clinic for 2020.
The year 2021 is going to be a challenge as we will be losing $2,500 a month in revenue. We also have not been able to plan fundraising events due to the pandemic. This is causing us to temporarily suspend our Trap/Neuter/Release program for feral cats. The program has been a huge success but we are $7,000 in debt for it, and until we pay that off and find funding for it we must hold off.
We are sad about this as we know it has helped our residential neighborhoods with feral cat problems. We will try our best to resume this program. We owe a big thank you to Coordinator Pam Austin and also our faithful drivers, Rob and Kris, who worked on this for over a year.
High Desert Humane Society is strong and we are determined to move ahead. We are confident that you all will continue to support us as this organization is needed for the welfare of local cats and dogs.
Thank you all so much,
Cheryl Brazell, Board Member
