ASU Gun Devils Shoot successful

Posted

On Sept 23 and  24, the Globe Miami Gun Club hosted two Sporting Clays events.

On Saturday, the ASU Gun Devils had their annual fundraiser competition here.

A local young man, Stephan Henderson, who was very successful during his high school years here, now competes for ASU.

The team placed third in the nation last year, and feel pretty confident they can improve on that this year. The funds they raised will help pay for their travel and lodging expenses to Nationals, which will be in Ohio this year.

56 shooters came to Globe-Miami for the competition, which was won by Joey Zerr, from San Diego, Ca.

Since Sporting Clays is a nationally sanctioned sport, all registered events are posted on a website, so we had competitors from as far away as Virginia who were visiting Arizona, and came up for the event.

One young man, who is going to school at ASU, is even from Kuwait.

On Sunday, the club hosted a follow-up event, the Salsa Trail Challenge.

That event was won by Jake Robinson, from Casa Grande.

In total, 9,800 targets were thrown in competition.

We would like to thank the Globe-Miami Chamber of Commerce for providing “Goody bags” of local tourism and community information to all the shooters.

We’d also like to thank Eddie Esparza of Guayo’s on the Trail for hosting dinner Saturday night for the competitors staying in town for the weekend, and to Cemex for the use of some additional ground for an event of this size.
