EDITOR: To First Friday Movie Discount users and its sponsor Ajax: I forgot!
My spouse turned 90 this October. Our three kids decided to honor him with a luncheon at the Elks Club on Saturday.
Twenty-two members of family were coming to our house for supper on Friday, Oct. 5. Even though the daughters and granddaughters did all planning and work (I only told them where to place the buffet and chairs) my mind was not on movie discounts.
I didn’t let Hollis Cinemas know. I didn’t tell Joanne Zache, who attends to publicity. People got no chance to be reminded that sponsor Ajax is an engineering firm that is owned by a local family who participates in the life of this community and are worthy of support.
For the past four years, 12 local sponsors have added a $2 discount to the discount already provided by Hollis Cinemas to allow any person 60 years in age or older to attend the first showing of any movie on the first Friday of a month for a cost of $4.
As patriarch of the family, spouse wrote a decree that was sent to all family attendees that there was to be no political discourse at the celebration. Half favor Trump and the other half disfavor him. Surely you understand my distraction.
Luckily everyone honored spouse’s request. We had a good time with no political debate. I will endeavor to attend future Discount Fridays.
