Anthony Christopher Tarango, 58

Anthony Christopher Tarango, aka “Tony" or “Gordo,” was born in Globe, Arizona on May 28, 1964, to Loretta Mae Reyes and Raymond V. Tarango. He passed away at his home on Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2022, of natural causes. Tony was 58 years old.

He grew up on the southeast side of Globe on Ruiz Canyon Street. He attended school in the Globe School District, and graduated from Globe High School in 1982.

Tony had numerous jobs throughout his life. He began working as a laborer contractor for Louie Aguirre at the City of Globe Youth Program. He attended the Labor Union Contractor school and graduated from there. He then worked for the Labor Union in the Valley. He also worked for La Questa Drug and Alcohol Treatment Center as a counselor, where he became certified and obtained an associate’s degree. When the treatment center closed, he was hired at the Gila County Jail as a jailer. He attended the Arizona Corrections Academy and graduated from there as well. He was later promoted to the rank of Sergeant. He later left this position to pursue another career in crisis intervention as a counselor. This led him to become employed as a home care person for the mentally handicapped. He again went back to work for Horizon Human Services as a crisis intervention counselor. The years of home care took its toll and he went to work for the Globe School District, where he worked  in maintenance for two years until his passing.

Tony was married and divorced early in life. During his marriage he raised two sons, John Joseph Garcia and Michael Anthony Tarango. His sons were the loves of his life, and he enjoyed being their father and spending time with them.

Tony was preceded in death by his parents Raymond and Loretta Tarango. Tony moved home to care for his parents until they passed away. He was also preceded by his niece, Melissa Tarango, and several aunts, uncles and grandparents.

Tony is survived by his sons, Michael Anthony Tarango (Anna) and John Joseph Garcia (Samantha). Tony had two grandchildren, Isaiah Tarango and Aubrey Tarango. He adored and loved his children and grandchildren immensely.

Tony is also survived by his brother, Ray R. Tarango (Trish), his sisters Carol Tarango (Rick) and Gina Paul (Anthony), and Edward Tarango, Mark Tarango and Gabriel Flores, his uncle Eric Tarango and aunt Lily Tarango, his aunt Betty Dominguez, Tonie Reyes, Roy Reyes, Connie Cruz, Joe Lira, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Tony’s faith in God was always constant and he was recently baptized into the Mormon faith. He was extremely happy with this newly found family.

Prior to his death Tony had requested that his remains be cremated.
