31st annual Pleasant Valley Days in Young July 17 - 19

Posted

Six guns and rifles will blaze just after High Noon on July 18 when the Oxbow Outfits and Payson Petticoats stage a famous Old West re-enactment in the usually quiet and peaceful town of Young, Ariz.

On Saturday they’ll re-create the first gunfight of the Pleasant Valley War, a keynote event during the annual Pleasant Valley Days weekend -- three days of history, heritage, food and drink; parade, roping and more. See below for the day-by-day event schedule; also posted in full length at discovergilacounty.com

The gunfighters’ Saturday performance follows the High Noon chainsaw raffle. On the third weekend each July the infamous Pleasant Valley War is remembered, and local history celebrated, during Pleasant Valley Days.

Where to eat?

The Hitching Post, Pleasing Palate and Community Center open early for breakfast - and the latter has a beer garden which opens at noon.

Sample unique wine variates at Bruzzi Vineyard (the rare vidal blanc grape is Bruzzi’s local specialty); the Pleasant Valley Community Center has crafts vendors, concessions. The Perkins Store, site of a famous and bloody ambush, and now a museum, opens to the public. Bring cash for food and drink  (burgers, bean and cheese burros, chicken tenders, french fries, onion rings, cheesecake and other snacks and drinks at the community center); most everything else is free!
