he 18th Annual Round Mountain Sunrise Challenge went off almost without a hitch at 6 a.m. on Saturday June 2.

The 13 runners and one walker who took off from the start line on the road to Round Mountain park were joined later by the father and son team of Kyle and Bill Nowak who won the race overall by completing the course in 35 minutes.

Veterans of many races, they had been held up by an accident on Highway 60 coming in from The valley.

Samuel Benedetto, who had come in first among the early starters was disappointed, but made a $50 bet with his mom that he would win next year. Silver Belt and Apache Moccasin editor David Abbott came in fifth overall but won the Male 51-65-year age category.

Among the women, Tricia McBride came in first overall with Leslie Parker, Crystal Hooke, and Peggy Bullis coming in next.

Race was run by the Globe Rotary Club with the City of Globe and the Gila County Division of health and Emergency Management. Other sponsors included the Cobre Valley Regional medical Center, Arizona Public Service, Southwest Gas, Lamont Mortuary, Edward Jones Financial Services, Desert Oasis Wellness Center, Dairy Queen, State Farm -Cami Lucero, and Oak Realty.

Globe Councilman, Lerry Alderman got up early to present the trophies to all categories of winners.
