Mexico Consul General’s visit to Miami

Posted

On January 24 the Town of Miami had the privilege of hosting a meeting at Bullion Plaza Cultural Center & Museum with the Consul General of Mexico in Phoenix (Consul General de Mexico en Phoenix), Jorge Mendoza Yescas, and his aides. Four members of the Miami Town Council were present, as well as the town manager and some of his staff. Also there, representing the Globe-Miami Chamber of Commerce, was Angel Ruiz. Christine Duarte and her friends prepared a buffet of delicious red chile con carne, beans and rice, and of course tortillas. The main topic at the meeting was how the Consulate General wishes to reach out to the Globe-Miami area and bring us closer as neighbors from the west of Phoenix. Also, it was mentioned that the Consulate General wishes to start an outreach program here locally, in which individuals could receive information on various topics such as work visas, medical information and benefits. Services that would have meant a trip to the Valley would now not require a visit to the Mexican Consulate in Phoenix. The Consulate General also mentioned a plan to have a gathering somewhere at some time in the future to further expand on the aforementioned information. All in all, the meeting was very cordial y muy amable.

Many thanks to all, muchísimas gracias a todos.

Mayor Jose (Angel) Medina Sr.
